I’m Damien - I live in Brighton within a community of 25 people surrounded by a big peaceful garden! I'm the Search Marketing and Web Accessibility Manager within the Marketing Centre of Excellence (MCoE) at Convatec.
In a nutshell, it means that I’m helping people to deliver the right information to the right audience at the right time and the right place digitally - whether it's a product page to help Health Care Professionals knowing more about our brand and products, or useful information to improve patients’ lives. This is what organic search visibility is about - it's not only about pleasing Google guidelines :).
I have the chance to work on a global level and across all the different business units so I’m meeting lots of different people with lots of different needs in terms of search outreach. I love languages, cultures, people and how the international search ecosystem brings all of it together.
I've been working for nearly a decade in an international digital marketing agency. I helped them to define their multilingual and multicultural USP and worked for several big global brands. In parallel I was coaching and training SMEs and Start-Up’s to show them how to make the most of their brand and products visibility on search engines.
The current pandemic made me realise that my place was now fully in-house to support a global organisation in their international search visibility. I wanted to embrace the culture of an organisation and have more meaning to my job every day. This new role in the Marketing Centre of Excellence (MCoE) ticked all the boxes.
It all began on LinkedIn when I was looking for a new career opportunity. I saw the job advertised and the idea of a new Centre of Excellence for Digital described by Nik (Purnell) in a video drew my attention. Straight away, I loved the values of the company and the exciting times of the digital transformation in Convatec.
My first contact was on the phone with Karolina (a recruiter for Convatec) and I remember to have felt looked after and well informed as a candidate, from the very first steps.
I’m passionate about how and why company culture and values are built and defined. I did expect to meet individuals led by Convatec values and I really found it in people’s motivation for their work. I’m a trustee for a young refugees charity (The Hummingbird Project) and we have worked a lot around defining our values. At the end of the day, it needs to match an organisations vision but also every individual personality and set of values they want to live by and express, in one way or another.
At Convatec, everybody can recognise themselves in some of the organisation values: Owning it, Growing Together or Doing What’s Right can talk to many.
I love working in the shadow for hours and bring to light the joy of good SEO results to marketeers! My best part is to coach people in the different markets and business units to help them to make the best of their content and to understand the challenges in their digital marketing work. When we get great results, we can all rejoice together.
And I love my team - Nik (Purnell) gathered kind hearted individuals who are the experts in their areas. It's nice to meet every morning and see how we are all making progress to leverage digital standards across Convatec's digital estate and help people in their work. We’re all acting on a global level in a multi-faceted organisation so it comes with big challenges. But the work we do is rewarding as we know that it will benefit lots of activities and people. And, at the end of the day, we all want to improve the lives we touch!
