Meet Rita

Master Data Team Lead

The Global Business Service centre in Lisbon officially opened with a virtual launch in May 2020. Rita shares her journey with us.

I will start with the last question, I am one of the Master Data Team Leads in the Global Business Services (GBS) centre, based in Lisbon, Portugal.

I joined Convatec mainly because of the challenging project of building a GBS centre from the ground up, I needed a professional challenge at the time.

Once I started, I realised that the challenge was what brought me to Convatec but the new vision, values and the people is what was going to keep me here. I joined in March 2020 when the GBS was still an infant and I was the first hire for the Master Data Team. I still had my induction in person with Jonathan Rogers (right before the pandemic hit) and I remember when he presented the values of Convatec and particularly the Own it one, I thought to myself “This is the right company for me!”. After that was just learning, growing as a professional and really being inspired by these great managers and colleagues.

My regular working day is mainly meetings. Working remotely has its ups and downs since we are all in our homes most of the time. At work, we have to spend the majority of our working hours in meetings in order to automate and continuously improve processes and, also, manage the day to day. But I definitely now get more time to stay in bed in the morning, avoid traffic and invest that time in something else to better enjoy the days 😊.

When I am not in meetings, I am providing support to my team, making sure that they are happy and have everything that they need to have an enjoyable and productive day. With the hybrid working, I still get to go to the office to connect with my team and peers.

I have to say, when I was promoted. I started in Convatec as a Specialist and my managers took a chance and believed in my potential. It is very special when you join a company that is willing to be your sponsor and is with you every step of your professional growth.

I really like how this is a people caring business. Being at the GBS centre in Lisbon and working closely to everybody, you feel how people really care for each other and how this company is trying to crush some bias. I really feel that in this company I can be myself.

All the initiatives that are occuring at Convatec recently, such as 'Our Work Life', health and wellbeing (ConvaFit), Women at Convatec ERG and many more, really speak to an approach that I've not often seen in some companies' cultures. It is really interesting and refreshing to be part of a company that says they want to improve lives and do it. I've been able to go into my weekend more organized with my work since we have Focus Fridays and the hybrid-working solution really speaks to a better work-life balance.

Being in the Master Data Team we have to be connected with most of the people that work in Convatec. In order for us to perform our job effectively, we need to connect with people and help them in order to achieve the main goal – create customers, create vendors, etc. This value is one that we practice every day because without it, how could we even perform our job as a Master Data Team?

Myself, I try to always be supportive and available to help my colleagues throughout Convatec and with my team. I always try to set-up the mind set of be supportive, be helpful and patient – this is how we all grow.

Actually, one of those challenges I am still overcoming right now. Quite recently I had two team members leaving, so I had to deal with their departure and at the same time motivating the team and hiring new members. This has proven to be the toughest challenge since I started at Convatec.

I’m looking forward to the new projects of automation that we have going on at the moment – very exciting. I do not want to reveal too much because it’s still under development but we are looking forward to automate and standardize, so we can have more time to improve and have a high quality data base.

I am a very indoors person, so I normally enjoy watching TV Series, movies, anime. I also have fun spending time with my friends and family, especially when we can travel together.
