Sandra initially joined Convatec as a Data Input Specialist after a change from the education sector. We sat down with her to discuss what she loves about working at Convatec.
I joined Convatec back in July 2019 as a Data Input Specialist within the Customer Interaction Centre. I was ready to take my career into a different direction. Prior to Convatec I had always worked with data within the education sector and career progression was limited. I contacted a recruiter about a Data Input Specialist role I had seen advertised at Convatec; as after doing some research into the company, learning about the culture, leadership, focus on innovation and improving the lives of medical device users around the globe.
I work within the Clinical Operations Team within Medical and Clinical Affairs as a Study Builder Data Manager. The clinical operations team started off with one member back in March 2021, I joined in November 2021 when there were 7 members; we now have 15 members in the team and people waiting for positions to become available so they can join us.
Implementing more systems to help us with our clinical study database. We have already implemented two new systems this year which have been a great success. In the coming months we are looking at adding additional systems to help streamline our processes and reduce the need for manual procedures. I am also excited to explore the possibility of Direct-to-Consumer studies and to further develop my skills in all things Clinical Data Management/Clinical Study Building.
The company culture, whether you’re an introvert or extrovert, finding a work environment where you feel comfortable is key. I, like many others, have found this in Convatec. The team I am currently working in has a big focus on team building, we have quarterly shenanigans meetings where we play games/carry out team building activities (often featuring a scavenger hunt), we have a film club where we vote on a film to watch and virtually meet to discuss our thoughts on the film and we also meet in person once a quarter for a week of working together, building on our processes, undertaking high performance team training etc.
I love the work life balance and the focus that is made on having that balance and unplugging to recharge and unwind; spending time with family and friends so I feel ready to face a new workday motivated and rearing to go.
Finally, I love the encouragement to succeed that is provided by my leadership team and the tools and support that is provided to help me reach my goals allowing me to reach new heights in my career.
I love my role and find all the projects I work on exciting but if I had to pick one, I would pick the study I am building with our Healthy Volunteer Study Team. The team has recently opened Convatec’s User Insights and Evidence Suites (CUES) facility to help support our clinical studies. The dedicated space allows for more face-to-face research to investigate the medical devices that we develop and produce, while being used by volunteers in order to understand how their usage impacts upon the device itself.
I personally have not found anything challenging about Convatec’s culture. I knew within my first week of starting at Convatec. I joined with a cohort of new starters and the time and effort that went into training to ensure we could provide the best service possible to our customers was second to none. Straight away I knew I was part of something special and the work I would be doing would help to make a difference in peoples lives.
